Research happens before design. Structure happens before visual design. Revision rounds happen at defined points, not continuously.

Umma Designs practice principles — established 2018

Six steps.
No surprises.

The steps are not bureaucracy. Each one prevents a specific failure mode.

01
Brief

Written brief agreed before work starts. If we cannot agree a brief, we will tell you before taking your money.

02
Research

We review what you know about your users. If there are gaps, we fill them with structured research activities rather than assumptions.

03
Structure

Architecture and flows before visual design. This is where expensive late-stage changes are prevented rather than fixed.

04
Design

High-fidelity screens built from the approved structure. Components first, then screens, then breakpoints.

05
Review

Structured revision rounds, not open-ended feedback loops. Each round consolidates all feedback at once.

06
Handoff

Annotated Figma file, asset exports, and a developer walkthrough session. Builds that use our files should not require design interpretation.

What clients say.

They asked questions we had never thought to ask about our own product. The discovery session alone saved us from building the wrong thing for the third time in a row.

Lorenzo Santini
Lorenzo Santini
CPO, Springa

We expected a redesign. What we got was an explanation of why users were actually struggling, followed by a redesign of the parts that mattered. The scoping was refreshingly honest.

Giulia Ferretti
Giulia Ferretti
Head of Digital, Banca Sella

The Brand-to-Product engagement gave our development agency a brief that was specific enough to actually follow. Previous digital projects had started from brand guidelines and drifted immediately.

Marco Visconti
Marco Visconti
Marketing Director, Casa Brera

The design sprint format was new to our team. By day three, we had already resolved a disagreement we had been having for six months. By day five, we had user data instead of opinions.

Quick answers.

Yes. You can commission any service independently. Many clients start with Product Discovery and proceed from there based on what it finds.
Yes. The work is the same. The constraints are different. Startups typically have fewer existing assets and more speed pressure. Established companies typically have more existing assets and more alignment complexity.
Each engagement includes a defined number of revision rounds (specified per service). A revision round is a single consolidated set of feedback, not a series of individual comments. We implement all feedback in the round together.
Yes. We work with several trusted development agencies in Milan and across Northern Italy. We can recommend one appropriate to your product and budget.
Yes. All work can be conducted in Italian. Project documentation is typically in English by convention, but we adapt to client preference.
No. All listed prices exclude Italian IVA (22%). EU business clients with a valid VAT number: reverse charge applies where applicable.
